Work continues on new basketball and pickleball courts at Buckhannon City Park

West Virginia is recognizing April as Family Strengthening and Child Abuse Prevention Month to boost awareness and mobilize communities to reduce child abuse and neglect.

West Virginia First Foundation is teaming up with universities to strengthen data systems and speed research that reduces overdose deaths and supports community solutions.

Buckhannon’s April 6–10 calendar includes curbside recycling (April 7), a Water Board meeting with in-person and virtual options (April 9), and bulky goods collection starting 5:30 a.m. April 10—call by April 8 to schedule.

WVWC’s theatre department will perform Ira Levin’s thriller “Deathtrap” April 9-11 in the Performing Arts Center. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee April 11. Admission is $10 general, $5 for seniors or WVWC ID.

Amanda Hayes was surprised with the Southern Upshur Business Association’s Citizen of the Year honor during the group’s annual April 1 dinner in Rock Cave. Fellow SUBA member Michelle Strader praised Hayes’ wide-ranging community involvement and leadership.
