BUCKHANNON — The ninth annual soup drive will provide 9,347 cans of soup for Upshur County schoolchildren participating in the Backpack Program, bringing the drive’s nine-year total to 53,038 cans.

State Farm agent Kelley Tierney’s office and the Rotary Club of Buckhannon-Upshur supported the collection with can-for-can matching contributions. Both Tierney’s office and Rotary announced the results November 6.

Individuals, churches, organizations and businesses contributed soup and money to the effort. Volunteers also hung signs and helped pick up the donations.

“Thank you for continuing to show up, give back and help make a difference for the children of Upshur County,” Tierney said.

The Rotary Club, a sponsor and supporter of the drive, thanked the community and described the effort as an example of its “Service Above Self” motto.
