Women’s Soccer: Johnson, Hartnell recognized by MEC

BRIDGEPORT – Fairmont State’s Abigail Johnson is the Mountain East Conference Offensive Player of the Week, while West Liberty’s Lauren Hartnell is league’s Defensive Player of the Week.

Johnson, a junior from Vienna, W.Va., had eight points in two matches as the Falcons went 2-0-0 and remained unbeaten in the MEC North. She had two goals and two assists in a win over Glenville State, and then added a goal in FSU’s 3-0 win over Wheeling Jesuit.

Hartnell, a senior from Nashport, Ohio, recorded a clean sheet as the Hilltoppers took down Urbana, 2-0. She recorded three saves in the victory.

Offense: Shannon Shawgo (WVWC) had two goals against Concord … Sarah Hill (CU) scored twice against Glenville State … Layne Hartnell (WLU) had a goal and assist in a 2-0 win over Urbana.
Defense: Isabelle Vaccari (FSU) had four saves and 1.5 shutouts last week … Alex O’Brien (WVWC) helped slow down Concord’s potent attack in a 3-1 win … Katherine Beech (UU) had five saves at West Liberty.
