Wilda Jaqulyn (Coberly) Cooper

Our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Wilda Jaqulyn (Coberly) Cooper, entered fully into the presence of the Lord on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. She was 84.

Wilda’s Christian faith was an essential and joyous part of her life and she, with her husband Warder Roscoe, who preceded her in death in 2021, worked diligently and lovingly for the Lord. They were members of Mission Independent Church in Walkersville, WV pastored by their very dear friends Earl Cayton and his wife Betty.

Also preceding her in death were her parents: Addie (Taylor) Coberly and Wilson Allen Coberly; her infant son Stephen Gregory; two sisters: Wanda Waybright and Mildred Hottle; and one brother Thurman Coberly.  She is survived by one brother, Donald Coberly; her four children: Sterling Cooper and wife Donna, Allan Cooper and wife Georgina, Suzanne Cooper-Cooke and husband Albert, and Kimberly Strevel and husband Ricky; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Wilda married Roscoe in 1955 (both of Elkins, WV) and began a family. In 1965, they headed to Baltimore looking for employment. Together, they built a life and raised their family. After motherhood, Wilda’s first job was a clerk in EJ Korvettes department store for 5 years before entering the health care setting at South Baltimore General for 10 years and North Arundel Hospital for 7. In 1991, Wilda and Roscoe retired together and returned to their beloved West Virginia – French Creek – where they resided until their deaths. They were married 66 years.

Wilda was a kind and caring woman who loved her family, nature, flowers, hunting and crafts. She had a creative and clever mind that made her a strong leader in her family and in her jobs. She leaves behind a giant hole that her family will forever know. Thank you Lord, for loaning her to us and know that we are comforted with the knowledge that she now walks with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The family will receive friends at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel on Thursday, May 16, 2024, from 5-7:00 PM.  The funeral will be held at the funeral chapel on Friday, May 17, 2024, at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Rick Cooper officiating.  Interment will follow in the Beechtown Cemetery.

Online condolences may be extended to the Cooper family at www.heavnerandcutright.com. The Cooper family entrusted the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel with the arrangements.
