The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Saturday that 1,514 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State, a new record singe-day increase.
More than 60 new cases were reported locally in Upshur (13), Barbour (6), Lewis (14), Randolph (25) and Webster (4) counties.
A total of 84 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR. Saturday’s update:
- Added one confirmed case to Dec. 8
- Removed one probable and added one confirmed case to Dec. 9
- Removed one probable case from Dec. 10
- Added five probable and seven confirmed cases to Dec. 11
Twenty-eight additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR:

- 95-year old male from Putnam County
- 77-year old male from Greenbrier County
- 75-year old female from McDowell County
- 95-year old female from Mason County
- 61-year old female from Mason County
- 66-year old female from Mineral County
- 101-year old female from Mineral County
- a 96-year old male from Mineral County
- 98-year old female from Mineral County
- 79-year old male from Mingo County
- 64-year old male from Wood County
- 67-year old male from Mineral County
- 82-year old male from Cabell County
- 75-year old female from Grant County
- 61-year old female from Putnam County
- 90-year old female from Marshall County
- 91-year old male from Boone County
- 77-year old male from Putnam County
- 93-year old male from Kanawha County
- 82-year old male from Brooke County
- 81-year old female from Wood County
- 76-year old female from Ritchie County
- 86-year old female from Lincoln County
- 85-year old male from Cabell County
- 80-year old male from Grant County
- 91-year old male from Kanawha County
- 89-year old male from Logan County.
The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of December 12, 2020, there have been 1,299,265 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 62,151 total cases and 966 deaths.
About 20,323 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 40,862 people have recovered and 966 have died. The daily percent positive was 6.27%.
