West Virginia reports 446 active COVID cases, eight new deaths on Tuesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Tuesday that 446 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 33 since the last report. 

Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (3), Barbour (4), Lewis (0), Randolph (11) and Webster (0) counties.

Eight additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 75-year old male from Hampshire County, a 93-year old female from Clay County, an 83-year old female from Putnam County, an 81-year old female from Kanawha County, an 80-year old female from Cabell County, an 83-year old male from Summers County, a 79-year old male from Harrison County, and a 78-year old female from Tyler County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of April 19, 2022, there are currently 446 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been 8 deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 6,804 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release.

About 88 residents are hospitalized with the virus (43% unvaccinated, 57% vaccinated), with 22 currently in intensive care (27% unvaccinated, 73% vaccinated) and 9 on a ventilator (44% unvaccinated, 56% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 2.96%. 

A total of 972,380 people have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, the DHHR said.  That’s about 54% of the state. Of those, 454,019 are fully vaccinated and have received their booster dose.
