West Virginia reports 324 active COVID cases, eight new deaths on Thursday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Thursday that 324 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 19 since the last report. 

Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (2), Barbour (0), Lewis (1), Randolph (6) and Webster (0) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an unchanged number of active cases in the last 24 hours. 

Eight additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 84-year old male from Berkeley County, an 80-year old female from Pleasants County, a 73-year old male from Putnam County, a 78-year old male from Marshall County, a 54-year old male from Barbour County, an 85-year old female from Marion County, a 92-year old female from Mason County, and a 75-year old male from Greenbrier County. 

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of April 7, 2022, there are currently 324 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been eight deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 6,749 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 127 residents are hospitalized with the virus (54% unvaccinated, 46% vaccinated), with 34 currently in intensive care (67% unvaccinated, 33% vaccinated) and 19 on a ventilator (53% unvaccinated, 47% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 1.06%. 

A total of 970,005 people have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, the DHHR said.  That’s about 54% of the state. Of those, 434,474 are fully vaccinated and have received their booster dose.
