West Virginia reports 3,111 active COVID cases, nine new deaths on Wednesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Wednesday that 3,111cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 45 since the last report. 

Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (44), Barbour (21), Lewis (17), Randolph (40) and Webster (8) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of five active cases in the last 24 hours. 

Nine additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 71-year old male from Barbour County, a 72-year old male from Kanawha County, a 58-year old male from Randolph County, an 84-year old female from Mason County, a 97-year old female from Braxton County, a 97-year old male from Mercer County, a 66-year old male from Monroe County, a 91-year old female from Lincoln County, and an 80-year old female from Ohio County. 

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of August 10, 2022, there are currently 3,111 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been nine deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 7,201 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 383 residents are hospitalized with the virus, with 62 currently in intensive care and 12 on a ventilator. The daily percent positive was 8.67%.

About 55% of the state has been vaccinated for COVID-19.
