West Virginia reports 3,066 active COVID cases, four new deaths on Monday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Tuesday that 3,066 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of nine since the last report. 

Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (39), Barbour (14), Lewis (19), Randolph (36) and Webster (9) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of three active cases in the last 24 hours. 

Four additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 83-year old male from Kanawha County, an 81-year old male from Cabell County, a 69-year old male from Wayne County, and a 78-year old female from Mercer County. 

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of August 9, 2022, there are currently 3,066 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been four deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 7,192 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 371 residents are hospitalized with the virus, with 69 currently in intensive care and 19 on a ventilator. The daily percent positive was 18.29%. 

About 55% of the state has been vaccinated for COVID-19.
