West Virginia reports 2,745 active COVID cases, four new deaths on Tuesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Tuesday that 2,745 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 114 since the last report. 

Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (41), Barbour (20), Lewis (25), Randolph (19) and Webster (18) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of six active cases in the last 24 hours. 

Four additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 61-year old female from Mercer County, a 92-year old male from Ohio County, a 79-year old male from Wood County, and a 76-year old male from Lewis County. 

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of July 19, 2022, there are currently 2,745 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been four deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 7,106 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 309 residents are hospitalized with the virus, with 35 currently in intensive care and 11 on a ventilator. The daily percent positive was 16.48%. 

About 55% of the state has been vaccinated for COVID-19.
