West Virginia reports 258 new COVID-19 cases, five additional deaths on Tuesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Tuesday that 258 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (4), Barbour (5), Randolph (12) and Webster (7) counties.

A total of 20 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Five additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 90-year old female from Jefferson County, a 51-year old female from Fayette County, a 72-year old female from Roane County, a 65-year old male from Putnam County, and a 70-year old male from Mineral County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of May 11, 2021, there have been 2,800,152 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 156,875 total cases and 2,734 deaths,” according to a press release.

About 6,780 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 147,361 people have recovered and 2,734 have died. The daily percent positive was 5.46%.

A total of 681,157 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said. That’s about 38% of the state.
