West Virginia reports 238 new COVID-19 cases, two deaths on Monday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 238 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (3), Barbour (5), Lewis (4), Randolph (2) and Webster (2) counties.

A total of 101 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Two additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 71-year old male from Kanawha County and a 75-year old female from Kanawha County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of February 22, 2021, there have been 2,119,158 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 129,854 total cases and 2,263 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 8,795 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 118,796 people have recovered and 2,263 have died. The daily percent positive was 4.84%.

A total of 166,272 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
