CHARLESTON, W.Va. – West Virginia State Parks officials announced Friday that Audra State Park has received a land donation of 47 acres from the family of Victor and Mary Thacker.
The Thacker family donated 47 acres adjacent to Audra State Park during a ceremonial deed signing at the West Virginia State Capitol on September 3. Their donation also included a $15,000 gift to the West Virginia State Parks Foundation earmarked for signage and future trail development of the park’s new Thacker Addition.
“West Virginia State Parks is deeply grateful for this extraordinary gift from the Thacker Family,” said Acting West Virginia State Parks Chief Dillard Price. “Each acre our state parks protect represents a lasting investment in our state’s natural, cultural and historical resources – a gift that directly benefits future generations.”
The Thacker family has a 175-year history in the Barbour County area surrounding Audra State Park and made the donation in honor of Victor Thacker’s great-great-grandparents Jacob Johnson Thacker and Sarah Ann DeMasters Thacker.
