The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Tuesday that 10,980 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 437 since the last report.
Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (219), Barbour (182), Lewis (95), Randolph (188) and Webster (32) counties. In Upshur County, that’s a decrease of nine active cases in the last 24 hours.
One additional death has been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 42-year old male from Berkeley County.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of August 24, 2021, there have been 3,304,506 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 180,804 total cases and 3,017 deaths,” according to a press release.
The daily percent positive was 12.76%.
A total of 902,265 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said. That’s about 50% of the state.
