West Virginia news outlet publishes voter guide listing candidate information for all 55 counties

Mountain State Spotlight recently published its 2024 Primary Election Voter Information
Guide
to help West Virginians as the primary election approaches.

Prospective voters in all 55 counties can find information in the guide about who’s on their ballot,
their polling location, and what time polls are open May 14.

Mountain State Spotlight is a reader-supported, independent investigative newsroom covering
West Virginia.

“At Mountain State Spotlight we recognize that a free press is vital to a healthy democracy,” said
Ken Ward Jr., founding editor-in-chief. “Our comprehensive voter guide is a tangible example of
the important role the media serves as a resource to inform and empower the people who keep
our democracy running — the voters.”

Since its publication in late April, over 18,000 West Virginians have consulted the voter guide.
During the midterm elections two years ago, about one in every five West Virginia voters
accessed the 2022 voter guide.

“This voter guide is the result of hundreds of hours of research and outreach to nearly 1,800
candidates,” said Erica Peterson, editor-at-large and lead designer of the voter guide. “I went
through every statewide, district, county and many municipal elections and tried to track down
information about the candidates. We wanted voters to know their choices, to help them make
informed decisions.”

Polls are open across West Virginia on May 14 from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. West Virginia voters
can visit www.mountainstatespotlight.org/primary to explore the voter guide.
