LUV 4 Animals, Jenkins Subaru invite animal lovers to October 17 adoption event in Buckhannon

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — Animal lovers from Buckhannon, surrounding communities and beyond are invited to spend some time getting to know the dogs and cats waiting for homes at a special adoption event on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lewis-Upshur Animal Control, 318 Mud Lick Road in Buckhannon, WV.

Hosted by LUV 4 Animals in partnership with Jenkins Subaru and Lewis-Upshur Animal Control, the event will feature reduced adoption fees of just $50 for dogs and $25 for cats.

But organizers hope visitors will come for more than the reduced adoption fees.

This won’t be just a walk past the kennel doors. Volunteers will be available to help visitors spend one-on-one time with animals they are interested in — walking dogs, interacting with cats, petting them and getting to know their individual personalities. Families and potential adopters will have an opportunity to spend time with an animal and get a better feel for whether that pet may be the right fit for their home.

“Sometimes you just can’t see who a dog or cat really is from a picture or through a kennel door,” said Jen Kesling with LUV 4 Animals. “Once you get them out and spend a little time with them, you start to see their real personalities — the sweet, funny and loving sides of them. That’s what we want people to experience that day. Come meet them, take a dog for a walk, cuddle with a kitten, spend some time with them and give them a chance to steal your heart. Nothing would make us happier than seeing as many of these animals as possible leave for loving homes.”

All adoptions will be handled through Lewis-Upshur Animal Control. Small giveaways will also be available for adopters, and a representative from Jenkins Subaru will be onsite to take part in the day’s activities.

The event is supported through the Subaru Loves Pets initiative. LUV 4 Animals received a $4,000 grant from Jenkins Subaru, with funds administered by the ASPCA, to support the October adoption event and additional efforts benefiting shelter animals and pets in the area.
