BUCKHANNON — Buckhannon city offices (including the Transfer Station) will be closed today, Monday, June 20, 2022, to observe both West Virginia Day & Juneteenth Day.
The City will maintain the normal waste (garbage) collection schedule for the week, including on Monday, June 20. West Virginia Day is a state holiday to celebrate our state’s June 20, 1863 admission to the Union as a result of the secession of several northwestern counties of Virginia during the American Civil War.
Juneteenth Day is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans per General Order No. 3 by Union Army General Gordon Granger on June 19, 1865, proclaiming freedom for enslaved people in Texas.
