West Virginia crosses 150,000 total COVID-19 case mark on Thursday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Wednesday that 400 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State, pushing the total number of cases since the pandemic began to more than 150,000.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (1), Lewis (1) and Randolph (5) counties.

A total of 33 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Eight additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 75-year old female from Morgan County, a 57-year old male from Kanawha County, a 78-year old female from Mingo County, a 57-year old male from Logan County, an 81-year old female from Nicholas County, a 78-year old female from Wyoming County, a 72-year old male from Kanawha County, and an 80-year old female from Boone County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of April 22, 2021, there have been 2,643,797 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 150,288 total cases and 2,808 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 7,324 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 140,156 people have recovered and 2,808 have died. The daily percent positive was 4.04%.

A total of 529,085 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
