West Virginia announces 10 COVID-19 deaths Tuesday as active cases drop

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Tuesday that 13,542 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 992 since the last report.

Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (203), Barbour (84), Lewis (215), Randolph (119) and Webster (50) counties. In Upshur County, that’s a decrease of 19 active cases in the last 24 hours.

Ten additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 43-year old female from Marion County, a 75-year old male from Kanawha County, a 72-year old female from Marion County, a 43-year old male from Wood County, a 71-year old male from Hampshire County, a 72-year old female from Preston County, a 92-year old female from Mineral County, an 89-year old female from Kanawha County, a 97-year old female from Marion County, and a 36-year old male from Cabell County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of September 28, 2021, there are currently 13,542 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been 10 deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 3,578 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release.

About 978 residents are hospitalized with the virus (81% unvaccinated, 19% vaccinated), with 291 currently in intensive care (86% unvaccinated, 14% vaccinated) and 193 on a ventilator (88% unvaccinated, 12% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 15.81%.

A total of 879,001 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.  That’s about 49% of the state.
