Wesleyan women picked fourth in MEC preseason tennis poll

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The University of Charleston has been voted to repeat as Mountain East Conference women’s tennis champions in 2024, following a vote of the league’s head coaches.

UC was a unanimous selection during preseason balloting, collecting five first-place votes and 25 points. Charleston is coming off a 21-2 campaign in 2023, which included a trip to the NCAA Sweet 16 in Orlando, Florida last May. This spring, Charleston returns reigning MEC Player of the Year Prinkle Singh, and first team All-MEC standouts Sofiia Krasikova and Filippa Larsson.

Fairmont State was second in preseason voting with one first-place vote and 21 points. Fairmont State is coming off a 13-7 campaign that included a berth in the 2023 NCAA Atlantic Regional. The Falcons will be led this spring by returning first team All-MEC standout Maria Fonseca.

West Virginia State checked-in at No. 3 in the preseason poll with 17 points. The Yellow Jacket lineup in 2024 will include All-MEC standouts Amanda Menendez Thomasson and Tuva Wallin. WVSU finished 8-8 in 2023, falling in the opening round of the NCAA Atlantic Regional.

The second half of the poll included West Virginia Wesleyan (13) at No. 4, followed by Frostburg State (9) and Davis & Elkins (5).
