Wesleyan women fall late in overtime

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Wesleyan (1-1-1, 1-1-0) women’s soccer team led until the 84th minute in a 2-1 overtime loss against Charleston (3-1-0, 2-0-0) on Sunday (Sept. 19) at Culpepper Stadium.

WVWC struck first after Brooke Lucas was called for a foul in the box in the 32nd minute. Natalie Pireu took advantage of the penalty kick attempt by sending the ball into the bottom right corner of the net for her third goal of the season.

Ally Moore made six of her nine saves in the first half as Wesleyan led 1-0 at halftime.

The score remained 1-0 until the 84th minute when Laura Vierhout dragged the ball into the bottom left corner of the net for the equalizer. The game entered overtime tied 1-1.

In the 98th minute, Madison Hansen connected on the golden goal for the Golden Eagles.

The Bobcats are scheduled to play a road match at Concord in Beckley, W.Va. on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 5:30 p.m.
