WHEELING — The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats put together a complete performance Wednesday, shutting out Wheeling 3–0 at Bishop Schmitt Field. Three different Lady Bobcats found the back of the net, and senior goalkeeper Maite Coutinho turned aside every shot she faced to secure the clean sheet.
Wesleyan dictated the tempo early, generating repeated pressure through midfielders Isabella Mazza and Sofia Avila. After several near-misses from distance, the breakthrough came in the 40th minute when defender Tessa Grisez finished a service from Carlie Ice inside the box. The goal gave the Lady Bobcats a 1–0 lead heading into halftime while the back line of Natalie Carlock, Kierra Hoiler, and Grisez held the Cardinals to just two first-half shots and none on target.
Wesleyan doubled its advantage midway through the second period. In the 64th minute, Ice—who had assisted the opening goal—took her turn on the scoresheet, drilling home a cross from Mazza after consecutive corner-kick opportunities.
Twelve minutes later, freshman defender Kailey Garofalo added insurance. Paloma Zamora slipped a pass into the penalty area, and Garofalo placed the shot into the lower right corner to push the margin to 3–0.
Wesleyan hosts Frostburg State University at Culpepper Stadium Sunday, Oct. 19. Kickoff is 3 p.m.
