Wesleyan volleyball team sweeps Davis & Elkins; earns top seed in upcoming MEC Tournament

Wesleyan swept Davis & Elkins 3–0 to finish 11–4 in MEC play, secure the conference’s top seed over Charleston, and will host the Mountain East Conference Tournament next week.

ELKINS — West Virginia Wesleyan volleyball closed its regular season in dominant fashion on Friday night, earning a 3–0 road sweep of Davis & Elkins (25–18, 25–19, 27–25) inside the McDonnell Center. With the win, the Lady Bobcats finish 11–4 in MEC play (.733) and officially lock up the No. 1 seed to host next week’s Mountain East Conference Tournament.

In set one (25–18), Wesleyan’s offense settled in with 12 kills, led by MacKenna Halfin, Emily Denison, and Bhrooke Axe. Solid back-row play from Lacey Guthrie and setter distribution from Mia Myers and Alexis Moeschler kept the Lady Bobcats in control.

In set two (25–19), Wesleyan elevated its efficiency to .278, with Halfin continuing to overwhelm the D&E block. Guthrie added a service ace, and the Lady Bobcats’ passing game held steady, allowing the offense to run cleanly through the middle and right-side attacks.

The third set was the tightest, featuring three lead changes and six ties. D&E posted its best offensive frame of the night with 13 kills, but Wesleyan’s balanced attack answered every push. Halfin delivered several late-set kills, and Axe added a crucial swing before the Lady Bobcats secured the extended 27–25 clincher.
