Wesleyan sweeps weekly MEC tennis awards

BRIDGEPORT – West Virginia Wesleyan swept this week’s Mountain East Conference Tennis Player of the Week honors, the league office announced on Monday. Takuya Kobayashi was named the Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while Dominique Jansen was honored as the Women’s Player of the Week.

The MEC Tennis Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.

Kobayashi, a freshman from Tokyo, Japan, went 4-0 in singles and doubles action last week, leading the Bobcats to wins over Salem and West Virginia State.

Jansen, a freshman from South Africa, went 6-0 for West Virginia Wesleyan last week, picking up three singles and three doubles victories. The Lady Bobcats went 3-0 last week with wins over Salem, West Virginia State and D’Youville.

Lacrosse Bucs crush Wheeing Park for first win, 15-3

Buckhannon-Upshur powered to its first win of the season with a 15-3 rout of Wheeling Park, using balanced scoring from seven players despite a near 30-minute delay. Braylon Oldaker, Easton Rice and Tobias Marple netted three goals each as the Bucs improved to 1-1.
