Wesleyan splits day two action at Glenville State Tournament

GLENVILLE — The West Virginia Wesleyan volleyball team wrapped up a competitive weekend at the Glenville State Tournament with a thrilling five-set battle against host Glenville State and a gritty sweep of Chowan University. The Bobcats (2–2) finished the tournament at an even .500 and placed Bhrooke Axe and Alexis Moeschler on the All-Tournament Team for their standout performances across all four matches

GAME ONE: Wesleyan 3, Chowan 0
Set Scores: 26–24, 25–22, 29–27

In a tight three-set sweep, the Lady Bobcats held off multiple late surges from Chowan to secure their second win of the season.

Offensive Leaders:
Bhrooke Axe dominated at the net with 17 kills on .500 hitting, adding 2 blocks for a match-high 19.0 points.
Emily Denison delivered her best performance of the weekend with 13 kills on a scorching .550 hitting percentage, plus 18 digs for a strong all-around showing.
MacKenna Halfin chipped in 7 kills, while Emonie Fennell added 5 more to balance the attack.
Playmaking & Defense:
Claire Wheeler orchestrated the offense with 23 assists, while Lacey Gutherie added 17 assists and 3 digs.
Alexis Moeschler, the Bobcats’ defensive anchor, tallied 16 digs and an ace.
The team totaled 6 service aces and 7 blocks.

GAME TWO: Glenville State 3, Wesleyan 2
Set Scores: 25–17, 13–25, 25–18, 17–25, 15–11

In a back-and-forth five-set battle against the host Pioneers, the Lady Bobcats fell in the decisive fifth frame.

Offensive Highlights:
MacKenna Halfin led the charge with 18 kills (.359), collecting 18.5 total points.
Bhrooke Axe remained hot, adding 13 kills (.391) and another double-digit scoring effort.
Lisdarelyn Grassals stepped up with 4 kills on 12 swings, and Emily Denison provided 7 kills and 3 blocks.
Back Row:
Alexis Moeschler was again a stabilizing force with 17 digs, 1 ace, and a .667 hitting percentage on opportunistic attacks.
Wheeler (28 assists) and Gutherie (17 assists) kept the offense flowing.
Wesleyan edged Glenville in hitting percentage (.194 to .152), but errors in key moments made the difference

The Lady Bobcats will host the WVWC Tournament beginning Friday, Sept. 12. The tournament runs through the 13th and the first match is set for 2:00 p.m. on Friday, featuring the host Bobcats against Virginia Union University.
