Wesleyan softball loses twice in Florida on Monday

University of Mary 14, West Virginia Wesleyan College 3

CLERMONT (Fla.) — The University of Mary defeated West Virginia Wesleyan College with a 14-3 win in a high-scoring affair Monday afternoon. The game was decided early, with Mary’s powerful offense surging ahead in the first three innings.

Wesleyan took a brief lead 1-0 in the first inning when Kendall Stoffel singled, driving in Hallie Dinkl. However, Mary quickly answered back in the bottom of the first, with Ariana Retuta hitting a two-run homer and Madison Hunter following with a solo shot, making it 3-1. Additional singles from Jenel Mallari and Madison Shamanski added more runs for Mary, extending their lead to 6-1.

In the second inning, Mary kept the pressure on, with more RBI hits from Mallari and Francesca Villaneda, increasing their lead to 8-2.

A huge threerunI triple from Madison Hunter highlighted a three-run third-inning frame, pushing Mary ahead 11-2.

In the fourth inning, Mary continued to capitalize on wild pitches and aggressive base running, adding three more runs to make it 14-3, which would be the final score.

Sioux Falls 3, West Virginia Wesleyan 2

Sioux Falls rallied late to defeat West Virginia Wesleyan 3-2 in a hard-fought contest. The game was a pitcher’s duel, with both teams battling for control until the final inning.

In the sixth inning, West Virginia Wesleyan broke the deadlock when Lynzee Hague singled down the right-field line, driving in Brooklyn Osburn taking a 1-0 lead.

The seventh inning saw Sioux Falls quickly responded as Amber McKinney’s sacrifice fly to left tied the game at 1-1, bringing Addison Heule home. Meghan Jochimsen then delivered a clutch single to center, scoring Bri Lawver (who advanced on a wild pitch), giving Sioux Falls a 2-1 lead.

Wesleyan countered in their half of the inning as Kendall Stoffel singled up the middle, scoring Hallie Dinklocker and tying the game at 2-2.

Sioux Falls sealed the win in the eighth inning when Alannah Naumann reached on a throwing error by the Wesleyan third baseman, bringing in Sarah Isaacson to score an unearned run, making it 3-2.
