Wesleyan men, women beat Concord

ATHENS, W.Va. – The battle between the Mountain East Conference southern division titans proved to be pretty lopsided Thursday as the West Virginia Wesleyan College Lady Bobcats pounced on the Mountain Lions for a 4-1 win.

Wesleyan’s Shannon Shawgo had the game’s lone goal in the first half, but she was joined by teammates Carolyn Saulle, Haelly Ramirez and Marissa Zetty in the second stanza.

The win gave the Lady ‘Cats a commanding lead in the southern division standings. They are unbeaten since a season-opening loss at Slippery Rock.

The LBC will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday when they host Urbana. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. with the senior announcements just prior.

Men: WVWC 2, Concord 1

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Wesleyan men’s soccer team ended a four-game slide with a 2-1 win over the Mountain Lions Thursday to complete the season sweep of Concord.

Concord fell behind early on an own goal before evening the game in the 53rd minute. But Wesleyan’s Lauri Vasa took advantage of another Concord miscue in the 60th minute to put the game away for good.

The ‘Cats will also host Urbana Sunday, with their game slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
