Wesleyan men end year with 88-76 loss to Senators; miss out on MEC postseason tournament

ELKINS — A first half 10-point deficit could not be overcome and West Virginia Wesleyan College men’s basketball lost to Davis and Elkins College 88-76, Saturday. The loss ends the Bobcats’ 2023-24 season.

Wesleyan maintained a small edge through half of the first 20 minutes but with 4:17 remaining, the Senators took the lead and quickly built it to 10 before the whistle.

In the second half, Wesleyan could not find a consistent attack, mustering only 43 percent success from the floor to the Senators’ 61 percent.

The Bobcats’ Alex Mirhosseini started the game on fire and ended by outscoring all players with 24 points on 8-of-16 from the floor and had five rebounds. Deiker Padrino scored 19 points on a 7-of-18 performance and had four rebounds. Jalen Canada went 3-of-9 for 10 points.

The Senators were led by Sam Rolle IV who had 19 points and three rebounds, Nicolas Silva who had 13 points and five rebounds and Charleston Ponds who had 11 points and five rebounds.

Wesleyan ends its 2023-24 campaign with an overall record of 2-26 and 1-19 in the MEC.
