Wesleyan lacrosse team drops two road contests to Edinboro and Thiel

EDINBORO (Pa.) — The West Virginia Wesleyan lacrosse team lost two games over the weekend. The first was to Edinboro University 13-7 on Saturday and the Lady Bobcats lost to Thiel College 14-6 on Sunday.

Leading the way offensively over the two-day road trip were three Wesleyan freshmen, Erin Mobley, Talia Berardo and Molly Knackstedt. Mobley picked up three goals on eight shots, including 2-of-2 free position shots against Edinboro, and added a goal and nine shots against Thiel. Berardo was silent against Edinboro but scored twice against Thiel and Knackstedt’s stick failed to find the goal against the Fighting Scots but nailed two goals on two shots against Thiel.

Berardo leads the Lady Bobcats in scoring in the young season with 13 goals, five assists and 18 points. Mobley is second 10 goals, one assist and 11 points. Knackstedt is seventh on the team with four goals and four points in five games.

Ella Gomez served 45 minutes in the net for the Lady Bobcats against Edinboro and gave up 10 goals while turning away 10 shots. Gomez played a full game against Thiel and gave up 14 goals while posting eight saves.

Wesleyan hosts the University of the District of Columbia Wednesday, Mar. 13 at 2 p.m.
