TIFFIN, Ohio – The West Virginia Wesleyan women’s lacrosse team fell to Tiffin University on Saturday evening 11-8 on the road. The Lady Bobcats were outshot by the Dragons 42-18 and had 22 clears in the loss.
Makenzi Lewellyn started off a strong first quarter by Wesleyan with two goals in the first 30 seconds. Kaitlyn Canby joined in on the offense, scoring a goal on a free position shot. Tiffin answered with just under the 11-minute mark on a goal from Gabby Wilson.
Raveena Navalgund went back-to-back to give the Lady Bobcats a four-goal advantage until the Dragons scored with 20 seconds left to make it 5-2 Lady Bobcats at the end of one. Neither team found the back of the net in the second quarter, going scoreless with Wesleyan taking that same lead into the locker room.
Tiffin trimmed the lead in the opening seconds of the second half but Kaitlyn Canby and Navalgund gave the Lady Bobcats their cushion back at 7-3. The Dragons scored consecutive goals to trim the WVWC lead to just two heading into the fourth quarter.
TU took their first lead of the game at the 9:39 mark of the final quarter on a Lillian Graham goal. The Dragons stretched the lead to 11-7 before Lewellyn added to her total for the night with 1:42 left. Tiffin grew too big of a lead and closed the game out on the Lady Bobcats.
Katelyn Jarvis led the Dragons with four goals on seven shots. Gabby Wilson and Graham both scored three goals as well. Wilson contributed with two assists to go with her goals.
Lewellyn and Navalgund had three goals apiece to lead Wesleyan. Canby added two goals. Gabriella Gomez totaled 21 saves on the night.
