Paul-PricePaul Price, Associate Head Coach / Defensive Coordinator / Defensive Line Coach
A native of Pittsburgh Pa. and Wesleyan graduate (Bachelor of Science, 1984; Master of Education, 1986), Paul Price’s experience is long and varied. From 1979-2008 he either played or coached the Bobcats. He was a two-time West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) performer and after graduation in 1982, joined head coach Bill Struble’s staff. As the Bobcats’ defensive coordinator, he coached three championship teams (1995, 2002, 2003) and had the privilege of coaching dozens of All-WVIAC athletes as well as several All-Americans.

After leaving Wesleyan in 2008, Price joined a new staff at Concord University where he rose to the rank of Defensive Coordinator and enjoyed two conference championships (2011 and 2014) that included a national semi-final showing in 2014. After the 2018 season, Price joined the West Virginia State University program as the special teams and recruiting coordinator. During his time at State, the program experienced four winning seasons. In 2023, Price moved on to the high school ranks at Berkeley Springs, W.Va. where he helped that program to an improved 3-7 record in 2024.

Price has one daughter Erin who graduated from Wesleyan (2008) and was an academic All-American in cross country. She is currently employed as a pharmacist in the eastern panhandle of the state.

Coach Price is a member of the Wesleyan Athletic Hall of Fame (2002 and 2003 Football Teams) and has been published in the AFCA summer manual.

He chose to continue his collegiate career at the University of Kentucky, playing two seasons before earning his bachelor’s degree in community and leadership development. Leavitt then moved as a graduate transfer to Indiana State University for his final season, where he helped the team achieve a 7-4 overall record and a 5-3 conference record, culminating in a top-25 finish.

After his collegiate career, Leavitt pursued a professional opportunity with the Columbus Destroyers of the Arena Football League, playing the final half of one season.

He coached the Bulldogs to back-to-back conference championships from 2022-2023, a first in Gardner-Webb program history.

Entering the 2023 season, Shanley became the Offensive Graduate Assistant / Assistant Quarterbacks Coach for the Bulldogs, then in 2024, Shanley moved to the defensive side of the ball as the Defensive Graduate Assistant, working with both linebackers and defensive line, where his team racked up a conference-leading 38 sacks.

After leaving his hometown of Akron, Lewis accepted the wide receivers’ job at Hocking College. In his first and only season on their staff, Lewis helped student-athletes obtain offers to play ball at the 4-year level.
