Wesleyan and West Virginia State battle to 0-0 draw in women’s soccer action

BUCKHANNON — The West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcat women put together a solid performance against the Mountain East Conference’s No. 2-ranked team, West Virginia State University, Wednesday to walk away with a scoreless draw and a much-needed point in the team’s final home game of 2024.

It was senior night and Wesleyan recognized nine seniors to start the evening.

State out shot the Lady Bobcats 20-4, but another great performance by keeper Paige Miller saved nine shots and she was all over the 18-yard box, stopping further Yellow Jacket scrambles.

Wesleyan remains out of conference playoff contention (the top four from each division moves on) but still controls its own destiny with two matches remaining, both against schools that are adjacent to them in the standings table. A pair of wins and the Lady Bobcats are likely to enter the post-season tournament.

The Lady Bobcats travel to Glenville State University on Sunday, Nov. 3 for a 6 p.m. kickoff. Wesleyan defeated the Pioneers earlier in the season 2-0, so a victory would seal any tiebreaker that might come into play.
