Webster County woman unscathed in Dec. 2 single-vehicle rollover

ADRIAN – A Webster County woman escaped uninjured from a single-vehicle rollover wreck that happened at about 3 p.m. Wednesday in Adrian on Route 20 South.

According to the accident report filed by Deputy Joseph Barcus with the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department, Patricia L. Gum, 79, of Hacker Valley, had been traveling south on Route 20 South by the Holly Apartments just past the railroad tracks in Adrian when her vehicle left the right side of the roadway, hitting snow and slush.

Gum’s vehicle, a green 2016 Toyota Corolla, then went into a snow- and slush-covered ditch, traveled partially up an embankment and rolled over onto its top, according to the accident report.

Gum was uninjured and was able to exit the vehicle herself. No one was cited, but Barcus did indicate snow and slush and road surface were contributing factors.

In addition to the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department, Upshur EMS, Adrian Volunteer Fire Department, Banks District Volunteer Fire Department and the Buckhannon Fire Department also responded.
