GLENVILLE. — The West Virginia Wesleyan volleyball team earned a hard-fought 3–2 victory over Glenville State University on Friday night inside the Waco Center, improving to 17–8 overall and 9–4 in Mountain East Conference (MEC) play. The Lady Bobcats battled through five sets, taking the match by scores of 27–29, 25–14, 25–20, 24–26, and 15–12.
Set 1 — Glenville 29, Wesleyan 27
The opening frame was a back-and-forth marathon featuring 18 ties and five lead changes. Bhrooke Axe ignited the Lady Bobcat attack early with four kills, while Emily Denison and MacKenna Halfin added key swings. Despite holding set point at 26–25, Wesleyan couldn’t close it out as Glenville rallied behind strong serving from Kaiya Lian to steal the opener, 29–27.
Set 2 — Wesleyan 25, Glenville 14
The Lady Bobcats responded emphatically in the second. Setter Lacey Guthrie guided a balanced attack that saw Axe, Grassals, and Denison each deliver multiple kills. Wesleyan dominated with a .303 hitting percentage and a 6–1 service run midway through the set, capped by a Faith Grafton dig-save and a kill from Halfin. A Glenville hitting error ended the frame 25–14.
Set 3 — Wesleyan 25, Glenville 20
Momentum stayed on the Lady Bobcats’ side as Axe continued her standout performance, tallying six more kills in the third. Alexis Moeschler anchored the defense with eight digs in the frame, keeping extended rallies alive. After Glenville closed within 20–19, consecutive blocks from Denison and Carleton helped Wesleyan seal the set 25–20 and take a 2–1 match lead.
Set 4 — Glenville 26, Wesleyan 24
The Pioneers staved off defeat with late-set resilience. Wesleyan led 23–21, but Glenville’s Cali Queen posted three kills down the stretch, and an untimely Bobcat attack error forced a fifth set. Despite the setback, Axe and Denison combined for nine kills in the frame.
Set 5 — Wesleyan 15, Glenville 12
The decisive set saw the Lady Bobcats strike early, racing to an 8–4 lead behind Axe and Denison. Glenville pulled within one at 11–10, but Guthrie’s setting and Moeschler’s back-row presence steadied the Lady Bobcats. Axe’s 24th kill of the night, followed by a Denison block, sealed the victory, 15–12.

Two matches remain for the Lady Bobcats in regular season play. Wesleyan hosts West Virginia State University on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. This will be the final regular season game at The Rock. Admission is free.
