TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur volleyball team celebrated “Senior Night” last Thursday in their Big 10 Conference encounter with the Lewis County Minutemaids.

The Lady Bucs honored their seniors in the best way possible with a straight sets 3-0 victory.

The scores were 25-17, 25-16 and 25-12.

The six seniors honored were Meghan Bailey, Kloey Chapman, Caroline Frye, Shelby McDaniels, Kaitlyn Shannon and Cadence Ringer.

“In 2015, we all began our journey together,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Ashley Stanton. “Coach Lisa Crites and I as new middle school coaches, and these young ladies as sixth-graders. It has been a privilege and an honor to have coached these girls over the last seven years.”

“We have been through a lot together,” Stanton added. “Words cannot even describe how proud I am of each of them. I wish nothing but the best for each of them in their future endeavors. I can only hope that I have made as much as an impact on their lives as they have on mine.”

The Lady Bucs served up 21 aces in the win as Shelby McDaniels led the way with six while Ringer and Chapman had five each.

Frye led the team in kills with nine and in digs with nine while Bailey had a team-high 21 assists. Kendal Currence and Kaitlyn Shannon each had a block in the win for the Lady Bucs.

On Saturday, they followed that up with a 2-1 record in a quad at Parkersburg South.

The defeated Parkersburg South by a 2-1 score (25-22, 13-25 and 25-14) and Magnolia 2-0 (25-23 and 25-21) but lost to Ritchie County by a 2-0 count (25-9 and 25-19).

The action left the Lady Bucs with a 10-8 record overall and a 5-3 mark in the Big 10 Conference.

They were slated to host Philip Barbour and Preston in a tri-match on Monday and visit East Fairmont Wednesday.
