Virginia Frances “Ginny” Smith, age 64, of Buckhannon, WV, died Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at her home. She was born May 13, 1962, in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late James Richard and Wilma Bennett Harvey.
On April 21, 1984, she married Johnny Smith, who survives. Also surviving is her niece who was like a daughter, Alicia Harvey of Buckhannon; two brothers, Larry Harvey and James R. Harvey, Jr. and wife Diane, all of Buckhannon; three nieces, Michelle Silvester and husband Chad of Elkins, WV, Tia Dowell and husband Willie, and Jody Lantz and husband Shaun, all of Buckhannon; beloved sisters-in-law Kim Sothen and husband Ricky of Warrenton, VA, and Lisa Anderson and husband Ron of Adrian, WV; special friends Sherry Powers of Buckhannon and Melody Jones of Mill Creek, WV; her Sand Run Baptist Church family; and her beloved dog, Joey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Lynn Harvey.
Mrs. Smith was a veterinary technician, earning an associate degree and then a bachelor’s degree with a 4.0 average. She was a member of the Sand Run Baptist Church, serving as the Sunday School treasurer for nearly 20 years. She was a strong Christian who loved the Lord.
Ginny enjoyed crocheting items like prayer shawls, baby blankets, and animals to give to others in order to bring them joy. She also enjoyed camping, listening to music, playing her mandolins and ukuleles, attending music festivals, and spending time with her family. She loved to travel, visiting 14 different countries and her favorite, Hawaii, four times.
Friends will be received Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Sand Run Baptist Church in Excelsior, WV. A funeral will be held at 1 PM at the church with Pastor Greg Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Sand Run Baptist Church Cemetery.
