The pediatric therapy team at Vandalia Health Broaddus Hospital proudly announces the expansion of its pediatric therapy services, now housed in the hospital’s new pediatric gym. This milestone marks a significant step forward in providing comprehensive, multidisciplinary therapy services to children and their families in Barbour County and surrounding communities. The newly designed pediatric gym is tailored to meet the needs of children of all ages and abilities, supporting their growth and development through engaging, evidence-based interventions.
“Historically, families in Barbour County often had to travel over 20 miles for pediatric therapy services, which created significant barriers to care,” said Heather Mayle, PTA, rehab manager at Broaddus Hospital. “With the expansion of our pediatric therapy program, families now have access to quality, multidisciplinary care right in their community. This initiative not only saves time and reduces costs for local families but also ensures that children can achieve their developmental milestones in a supportive and convenient setting.”
Broaddus Hospital’s pediatric therapy services include occupational therapy (OT), physical therapy (PT) and speech-language pathology (SLP) from the following specialists:
- Gemma Hoxie, DPT, a specialist in neurological, orthopedic, post-surgical and pediatric care;
- Amy Unger, SLP, a specialist in developmental disorders, swallow studies, safe feeding techniques, augmentative and alternative communication systems and sign language;
- Bethany Reed, OTR/L, a specialist in treating children with Autism, Down Syndrome, cerebral palsy, developmental delays and sensory processing disorders.
“Our new pediatric gym offers a welcoming and engaging space for children to thrive and reach their full potential with care delivered right here at home,” said Dana Gould, Chief Administrative Officer for Broaddus Hospital. “We’re proud to offer these essential services to our local community.”
