Audra State Park is seeking volunteers to help beautify its upper picnic area and future group camping area during National Public Lands Day on Saturday, September 26.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the park’s upper picnic, group camping and overflow area at 7812 Audra Park Road, Audra, WV 26201.
Volunteers will gather fallen sticks and leaves into piles for the park’s maintenance crew to haul away, according to Audra State Park Naturalist Jen Butcher. West Virginia native plants will also be donated as part of the effort to reduce invasive species and restore the area’s natural beauty.
“Pack some cold drinks and a snack and we will see you there!” Butcher wrote in the event announcement.
Participants can also help document species at Audra State Park during a bioblitz. Butcher encourages volunteers to download the iNaturalist app and add interesting finds from the day.
The cleanup is part of National Public Lands Day’s Caring for Our Shared America observance, which emphasizes conservation and caring for shared parks, trails, forests and waterways as the country marks its 250th anniversary.
