Upshur County reports 16 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, active cases jump to 105

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 1,177 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (16), Barbour (7), Lewis (3), Randolph (10) and Webster (4) counties.

A total of 105 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR. Monday’s update:

  • Removed two probable cases and added one confirmed case to Dec. 11
  • Added one probable case and two confirmed cases to Dec. 12
  • Added five probable and eight confirmed cases to Dec. 13

Ten additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 66-year old male from Grant County, a 79-year old male from Raleigh County, a 90-year old male from Jefferson County, a 67-year old male from Preston County, a 71-year old male from Berkeley County, a 95-year old female from Berkeley County, a 76-year old female from Berkeley County, a 74-year old female from Berkeley County, an 86-year old female from Berkeley County, and a 78-year old female from Kanawha County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of December 14, 2020, there have been 1,321,330 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 64,394 total cases and 978 deaths,” according to a press release.

About 21,076 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 42,340 people have recovered and 978 have died. The daily percent positive was 8.33%.
