Upshur, Lewis, Barbour and Randolph counties all report new COVID-19 cases on Saturday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Saturday that 206 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State. That includes seven in Upshur, nine in Randolph, three in Barbour and one in Lewis County.

Upshur County continues to have the worst infection rate in the state. Barbour County is second, Tucker third, Mingo fourth and Randolph fifth.

Although Upshur County is gold on the daily map, Friday’s numbers were revised to increase the county’s color rating to orange. That means schools will likely be closed to students again this coming week, although that won’t be official until the West Virginia Department of Education map is released at 5 p.m.

Five additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 78-year old male from Mercer County, a 92-year old female from Kanawha County, a 79-year old male from Kanawha County, a 96-year old female from Fayette County, and a 71-year old male from Kanawha County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m., October 10, 2020, there have been 627,403 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 17,913 total cases and 381 deaths,” according to a press release.

New cases were reported Saturday in Barbour, Berkeley, Braxton, Brooke, Cabell, Calhoun, Doddridge, Fayette, Gilmer, Grant, Hampshire, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lewis, Lincoln, Marion, Marshall, Mason, McDowell, Mercer, Mineral, Mingo, Monongalia, Monroe, Nicholas, Ohio, Pendleton, Pocahontas, Preston, Putnam, Raleigh, Randolph, Summers, Tucker, Upshur, Wayne, Wetzel, Wirt, Wood and Wyoming counties.

About 4,446 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 13,086 people have recovered and 381 have died. The daily percent positive was 1.7%.
