Upshur County Sheriff’s Office releases names of drivers involved in fatal crash Wednesday morning

The Upshur County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of the two drivers involved in a fatal crash on Route 20 near Shumaker Road early Wednesday morning.

“The driver of the 2022 Toyota Corolla was Larry Ray Green, 63 years of age, of Buckhannon, and the driver of the 2018 International dump truck was Richard Alan Marple, of Buckhannon, 71 years of age,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.

According to the initial story on the wreck, Marple’s dump truck was heading south on Route 20 at about 5 a.m. when it lost control and collided with the Corolla, which was headed north, driven by Green. Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles.

“Fire units on the scene used the jaws of life to extricate both drivers,” the sheriff’s office said Wednesday. “The driver of the Toyota was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the International truck was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital.”

The Upshur County Sheriff’s Office and the West Virginia Public Service District (Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division) are conducting an investigation into the wreck.

“No further information will be released at this time,” Friday’s release states. “The crash remains under investigation.”
