Upshur County reports two new COVID-19 deaths on Friday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 2,088 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 39 since the last report. 

Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (56), Barbour (27), Lewis (15), Randolph (23) and Webster (32) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of six active cases in the last 24 hours. 

Thirteen additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 67-year old male from Mercer County, a 66-year old male from Berkeley County, a 50-year old female from Fayette County, a 69-year old female from Marion County, a 79-year old female from Logan County, a 76-year old male from Cabell County, a 66-year old male from Upshur County, a 59-year old female from Preston County, a 71-year old female from Berkeley County, a 66-year old female from Upshur County, an 86-year old female from Marion County, an 89-year old female from Logan County, and a 64-year old male from Logan County. 

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of March 4, 2022, there are currently 2,088 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been 13 deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 6,440 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 424 residents are hospitalized with the virus (60% unvaccinated, 40% vaccinated), with 107 currently in intensive care (75% unvaccinated, 25% vaccinated) and 57 on a ventilator (81% unvaccinated, 19% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 4.36%. 

A total of 963,062 people have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, the DHHR said.  That’s about 54% of the state. Of those, 413,165 are fully vaccinated and have received their booster dose.
