Upshur County reports a new COVID-19 death Wednesday, the 30th overall

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Wednesday that 302 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Barbour (9), Lewis (2) and Randolph (1) counties. A total of 40 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Four additional deaths have been attributed to the disease – an 80-year old male from Upshur County, an 85-year old male from Jefferson County, a 93-year old female from Kanawha County, and an 82-year old male from Ohio County.

The Upshur County death was the county’s 30th since the pandemic began.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of March 10, 2021, there have been 2,258,974 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 134,158 total cases and 2,330 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 5,360 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 126,468 people have recovered and 2,330 have died. The daily percent positive was 3.19%.

A total of 219,306 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
