Two deaths, 28 new cases of COVID-19 reported in West Virginia on Tuesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Tuesday that 28 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Two additional deaths have also been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR — a 52-year old male from Kanawha County and a 70-year old female from Berkeley County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 5 p.m., on June 2, 2020, there have been 102,298 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 2,056 total cases and 78 deaths,” according to a press release.

New cases were reported Tuesday in Berkeley, Cabell, Jefferson, Kanawha, Monongalia, Monroe, Morgan, Putnam and Wayne counties.

About 605 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 1,373 people have recovered and 78 have died, a mortality rate of about 5.4 percent.
