Two charged with attempted murder after shooting in Randolph County on Thursday

Two Montrose men are facing attempted murder charges after a man was allegedly shot multiple times at a Randolph County residence Thursday night, according to the West Virginia State Police.

Trooper H.J. Bonetti and Senior Trooper A.P. Petrella responded to a report of a shooting at Mule Hollow Road in Montrose at approximately 9:16 p.m. on Thursday, February 12.

Investigators determined that Derek Arbogast, 37, of Montrose, allegedly shot his brother, Brett Arbogast, 31, of Elkins, multiple times with a .22 caliber revolver, according to a press release. A second individual, Larry Talkington, 62, of Montrose, then allegedly restrained the victim and dragged him back into the residence to prevent him from leaving. Once inside, Derek Arbogast allegedly shot the victim again.

Brett Arbogast was transported from the scene and flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The West Virginia State Police Crime Scene Team responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.

Derek Arbogast and Talkington have both been charged with attempted murder in the first degree and are being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing.
