Track and field Lady Bucs claim nine events, easily wins home meet

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc track and field team had little resistance in winning a small five-event last Tuesday at Freal “Red” Crites Memorial Stadium.

The meet featured Buckhannon-Upshur along with East Fairmont, Tygarts Valley, Pocahontas County and Pendleton County.

The Lady Bucs won nine of 15 events as they compiled 135 points.

East Fairmont was a distant second with 52 points while Tygarts Valley and Pocahontas County tied for third with 50 points while Pendleton County was last with 11 points.

Buckhannon-Upshur claimed seven individual events and won two relay events.

Catherine Oliveto, Cameron Zuliani and Samantha Shreve each won two events for the Lady Bucs.

Oliveto won the 200-meter dash (27.58) and the 400-meter dash (1:03.15), Shreve won the 800-meter run (2:34.05) and the 1600-meter run (5:42.34) and Zuliani took first in the 300-meter hurdles (51.49) and the discus throw (118-10).

The other individual win belonged to Chloe Cale in the long jump (15-10).

The two relay victories belonged to the 4×400-meter quartet of Dezi Pugh, Zuliani, Cale and Shreve (4:26.85) and 4×102.5-meter relay foursome of Oliveto, Zuliani, Pugh and Cale (1:10.71).

The Lady Bucs brought home four runner-ups that belonged to Pugh in the 400-meter dash (1:04.48) and the 100-meter hurdles (17.28), Kacey Davis in the shot put (28-01) and Catherine Neely in the discus (100-11).

Thirds went to Allison Andrew in the 100-meter dash (14.73) and the 200-meter dash (29.99), Ashley Catlin in the 800-meter run (2:50.15), Brianna Dalton in the 1600-meter run (6:40.14), Cale in the 100-meter hurdles (17.76), Kaydence Monti in the long jump (15-10) and Olivia Shipley in the shot put (27-03), the 4×100-meter relay team of Andrew, Davis, Monti and Destinee Thomas (58.26) and the 4×200-meter relay squad of Miah Reger, Haley White, Monti and Andrew (2:00.63).

The Lady Bucs were scheduled to run last Thursday at Ritchie County.

They will compete again Tuesday in a home meet at 4:15 p.m.
