BUCKHANNON – My Buckhannon is proud to present another edition of the Hank Ellis All-Stars. Each week we will select a female and male athlete at Buckhannon-Upshur that has had an exemplary week on the baseball or softball diamond, the lacrosse field, the tennis courts or the track.
Our Hank Ellis All-Stars for the week of May 8–May 14 are Payton Bennett and Chloe Cale.
Bennett is a senior on the Buccaneer baseball team.
In three sectional tournament games, including a 15-1 win over Preston, Bennett hit the ball at a .444 clip. He went four-for-nine at the plate scoring two runs and knocking in two runs while stealing three bases.
Cale is a senior on the Buckhannon-Upshur track and field team.
At the Region I Championships, Cale won the long jump with a leap of 16-10.50. She was also runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.77. She was part of two relay teams that placed in the top six as the 4×102.5-meter shuttle hurdle team placed fifth with a time of 1:14.96 and the 4×400-meter relay team took sixth with a time of 4:24.35.
Congratulations to Bennett and Cale as our weekly winners of the Hank Ellis All-Stars honor.
