This week’s Hank Ellis All-Stars: Andrew McDowell and Aubry Shay

BUCKHANNON – My Buckhannon is proud to present another season of the Hank Ellis All-Stars. Each week, we will select a male and female athlete at Buckhannon-Upshur who has had an exemplary week on the basketball court, wrestling mat or swimming pool.

Our Hank Ellis All-Stars for the weeks of Feb. 3 – Feb. 9 are Andrew McDowell and Aubry Shay.

McDowell is a senior on the Buccaneer wrestling team. In a home quad with Bridgeport, Oak Hill and Huntington last weekend, McDowell went 3-0 and pinned the No. 3 ranked wrestler in the state, Shad Henry, in his 132-pound weight division. He is currently ranked sixth in the state at 138.

Shay, just a freshman on the B-U swimming team, qualified for four events in the upcoming state swimming championships. Last week in the Region III meet in Bridgeport, she qualified for two individual events, placing fifth in the 200-yard IM (2:32.89) and eighth in the 500-yard freestyle (6:17.06). She was also part of the 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard freestyle relay teams that will swim in Morgantown next week after taking fifth and fourth at the regional meet.

Congratulations to McDowell and Shay as our weekly winners of the Hank Ellis All-Stars honor.
