MORGANTOWN – The Buckhannon-Upshur tennis Lady Bucs split a pair of outings last week on the road.

They dropped a 7-0 decision to Morgantown in non-conference action on Tuesday and rebounded to beat Liberty by a 6-1 score at Lincoln High School on Wednesday in a Big 10 Conference clash.

The best effort against Morgantown belonged to Madelyn Frye and Mya Critchfield, who dropped an 8-6 decision at No 2 doubles.

“Madelyn and Mya were really close to a win in doubles,” noted Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Rock. “Mya played a really competitive match in singles also, probably closer than her score shows. Madelyn, at the No. 3 seed, played a girl who was Morgantown’s number one player last year. She still showed fight and was flying around the court for every ball.”

Things turned around for the Lady Bucs in the 6-1 win over Liberty.

The Lady Bucs swept doubles action as Tori Adams and Lainey Rowan won at No. 1 by a 9-7 score, Frye and Critchfield won at No. 2 by an 8-4 score and Cate O’Neill and and Alexis Wuchner won at No. 3 by an 8-6 score.

The Lady Bucs clinched the win taking three singles matches as Rowan won at No. 2 by an 8-2 score, Frye won at No. 3 by an 8-0 score and Critchfield won at No. 4 singles by an 8-2 score.

“The girls took care of business and played some great matches against Liberty,” stated Rock. “Our No. 1 doubles and No. 3 doubles teams played really close matches and found a way to win.”
