Tennis Lady Bucs fall to Lewis County and John Marshall

WESTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur tennis Lady Bucs finished off a busy week last week with a pair of road matches against the Lewis County Minutemaids on Thursday and the John Marshall Monarchs on Saturday.

Buckhannon-Upshur came up just short against rival Lewis County, dropping a 4-3 decision, and they followed that up with a 7-0 setback to John Marshall.

Against Lewis County, Madelyn Frye and Alexa Davis picked up the lone doubles win for B-U, earning an 8-4 decision at No. 2.

Lainey Rowan at No. 2 and Madelyn Frye at No. 3 got singles wins for the Lady Bucs.

“Lainey Rowan got her first-ever win in singles, which was great,” noted Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Rock. “She has worked so hard in the last year or so to improve her game, and it was awesome watching her get the win. With her win, every varsity player and doubles team has gotten a win this season which is an awesome feeling.”

Rock said on Saturday that John Marshall simply had the better team.

“John Marshall just had solid girls that were hard to beat,” said Rock. “A few of their girls could really place the ball well and used our weaknesses against us.”

The pair of losses dropped the Lady Bucs to 3-11 on the year.

Their outing Monday with Elkins was postponed by the weather. They will be back in action Tuesday at Morgantown.
